Because Root beer is the only drink that taste's like roots and beer making it the perfect drink for Plankton's cousins. Root Beer is also much better than Lemonade because the lemon is a very acidic fruit which may not be tasted in the drink itself but can be resembeled as the ingrediant of the drink. Plankton's cousins may also only know of such drink as where they live it may be the primary thing drunk in that area. Also the cousins may not want to get drunk visiting Plankton so they drink a liquid with the word "beer" in it make them believe that they are getting drunk when really they are doing the exact opposite
