That'd be so awkward to play on the PS3.

I agree. I got it for Christmas and I played it today. Love it to bits. However, I'm stuck on ''Defying the Laws of Gravity'' I get halfway through, then I get crushed by one of those huge cement blocks that looks like a piece of ravioli.
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games sucked. They should've stopped with the summer games, because at least that was fun. The graphics kinda sucked, but it was fun. Olympic Winter Games just failed completely. The graphics were great, but character control and multiplayer games were terrible. They added some pretty useless characters on Sonic's team, too. i.e. Silver, Eggman, etc.
I used to be obsessed with Sonic, just like I am now with Muppets. I still kinda like it, but I'm not crazy about it. Besides, Mario kicks Sonic's shiny blue sell-out ass.

Re: Mario ( Video Game Series Discussion)
I'm just re-posting this from my TV.com blog.
"Good old Mario. The face of Nintendo, AND of gaming in general. He's also noteworthy as the kind of mascot that DOESN'T release bad game after bad game. Mario has ran around 8 bit, 16 bit, has jumped into the 3D world, and has gone beyond. He appeared in spin-offs, side games, and got to see his friends, as well as his brother, get their own games to star in. Of the many games he's been in, Mario rarely winds up in a bad game. His games are almost always, at the very least, good.
But what game in the Mario series is truly the best?
Now that there is a subjective question. But what if we were to try and find what game can be called that? In addition to the main platformers, there are the Mario Party titles, the sport games (Mario Golf, Mario Tennis...). Then there are the RPG games (Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi). And let's not forget the well known Mario Kartsub-series!
Those are all very fun games. But can they truly represent the best of the plumber's career? Can they truly be better then the best of the main titles? I'm unable to say they can, as fun as they are. So we'll need to look at the main series! Now I can talk about Super Mario Bros., Mario World, or all that. But let's start with the legendary Super Mario 64.
Mario 64 is not only seen by the general public as the best game in the series, it's also considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time. It set the standards. It revolutionized 3D gaming. Sure, there were some 3D games before it, such as Crash Bandicoot. But let's face it, they were prototypes. Mario 64 was the first true 3D game, and that's evident.
But it wasn't only revolutionary. It was also a REALLY fun game. There were so many levels to explore, secrets to be found. There was a charming castle to wander. 120 stars were hidden throughout the levels, and you had to find them in order to 100% the game. There was no single pathway to obtain the stars. The game gave you recommendations, but it was your choice as to how to get each of them. You had the ability to be inventive!
It wasn't a very challenging game, and it was relatively short. But it was such a joy while it lasted. Plus, the control scheme was wonderful. And might I mention the golden soundtrack? We had the main theme, the data menu screen, the water levels, the wing cap theme, Bowser levels, as well as the Bowser fight song itself. Plenty of memorable tunes.
The story was basicMario. Bowser kidnapped Peach, and Mario has to save her. But for an intro to the 3D world, no other story was more suitable. I'd also like to mention the power ups. The various caps were all fun, but the one I want to bring up most is the wing cap. Just wearing this cap and soaring around is so... nice. I remember back when I was young. I often turned this game on, launched onto the castle, got the wing cap and just soared around. It's honestly my personal favorite part of the game. It's like... like in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, just free sailing, or standing at the very top of a sea platform at night and staring out at the ocean until sunrise. The sounds of the wind and the waves feel so... real. It's the little things such as this, and the wing cap, that help to make a game.
... And yet, is Mario 64 really the best game in the series? From my descriptions above, it could seem so. But "best game in the series" is REALLY a big title. And I have to be perfectly honest, I don't think such a title can be given to this game. Revolutionary doesn't make it the best. And despite all it's qualities, I think other games have built upon it's foundations, and are improvements. In fact, I'd say Super Mario Bros. 3for the Nintendo was a better game. Sure, it was a 2D game, but it was 2D at it's finest. Mario 64, on the other hand, is NOT 3D at it's finest.
Let's also look at the GameCube title, Super Mario Sunshine. This poor game gets so much unneeded hate! Sure, it's somewhat lacking in levels. The soundtrack is weak, but nowhere near as bad as the voice acting. Also, the difficulty sometimes feels more like bad design rather then fair challenge. But despite all this, and though I personally wouldn't, one could argue this is a better game then Mario 64. FLUDD adds to the gameplay, and the graphics are nice are have aged quite well since 2003.
Now let's look at this current generation: the Wii. With it we can find the newestgames. The Mario Galaxy titles.
The people have spoken. This is often considered the true successor to Mario 64, released 11 years later in 2007. While I don't say that, I perfectly see the logic.
Personally, I would argue that this game is even better. Sure, it's difficulty is extremely low, sometimes nonexistant. And in terms of obtaining stars, the levels were downgraded in the sense that there is now a single, linear way of reaching them. But this game controls so perfectly, showing motion controls done RIGHT. The soundtrack is beautiful, mostly orchestrated, and has some of the best game tunes ever. The graphics are also extremely polished and the look of the game is beautiful. And even without much challenge, the levels are just fun. It's also noteworthy as being the most story heavy Mario platformer... not saying much though.
But let's now talk about it's direct sequel. Super Mario Galaxy 2.
And now, my friend, I can argue more then ever before why "revolutionary" doesn't make a game the best. This game does... well, nothing to revolutionize the series. Heck, it was originally to be another version of the first game, titled More Super Mario Galaxy. Despite not having the impact of the original, this is truly one of the most perfect games out there. The levels contain far more depth now, and there are more power-ups. Miyamoto was right when he decided they could make a game from the ideas left out of the original!
The story was downplayed, but that's okay for a game like Mario. And this game really improved on the original to make up for it, making it truly superior.
So like I said in the beginning, "perfect" is subjective. You can pick whatever game you want as your favorite. But I think the main point I was trying to get across here, as mentioned, was this:
Revolutionary =/= Best
And Mario 64 was indeed a very fun game. But if we look at the facts, it's seen as one of the best games every BECAUSE it was revolutionary. The same can be said for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil 4, and more. When games have an impact, they get this kind of praise, regardless of how good they are. Even if other games in the series are similar, they won't be as remembered because they aren't the ones that impacted gaming.
I consider SuperMario Galaxy 2 to be the best in the series, and possibly the pinnacle of all platforming. But it didn't bring what SuperMario 64 brought to gaming. And that, folks, is innovation."

Revolutionary =/= Best
The entire game was just a shitty collection of gimmicks, and there were few pure platforming levels in there. While I say that, the few times it did have pure platforming levels they were golden, some of the best/funnest experiences I've had in a Mario, maybe even a game alone. That said, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is not even close to being the best mario game, or the "pinnacle of all platforming". That phrase you have right there is a major heap of bullshit. All though you do make a few good points in the wall of text.
I 100 percent agree with you on the revolution thing. Although you shouldn't have used Mario 64 as an example, you should've used original piece of bullshit, Super Mario Bros for the NES. There is no best mario game. All of his games rule aside from a selective few.
Although that revolution thing was grand, sadly all your other points are flawed.

No. It's the fact that his post was borderline flaming. This, for example, was a clear trollish point.
"That phrase you have right there is a major heap of bullshit. All though you do make a few good points in the wall of text."
Not to mention he implied, without DIRECTLY saying it, that I'm wrong because I like Mario Galaxy 2 the most. Basically, he doesn't understand that I'm allowed to have an opinion. He claims my points are flawed, which is 100% nonsense because I explained them all. Calling them flawed is simply his way of ignoring them.
One of the main points I was getting at there was that there's no best game. It's PURELY subjective? So what's he do? Make a big post telling me that I wrote a wall of text and call my points flawed.

What are you talking about? Like, what does that even mean? You just seem interested in trolling right about now. That's just not right.
Dragiiin123 wrote:

Again, my points are not flawed. I went into detail explaining ALL my opinions. I don't mind if you disagree with all my opinions, but the fact that you refuse to acknowledge my perfectly reasonable and explained opinions that is just bad. You're acting like a know-it-all AND a hypocrite (again, not saying you are those, but that's how you're acting right now). You claim that you didn't get bitter over my opinions, and then you claim that my points are flawed. Why, just cause you disagree with them, that makes them flawed?
"Just because you understand them doesn't mean everyone else does"? Sorry, but everyone else does understand them. They are valid opinions!

Remember, people are allowed to have opinions. It's how you EXPLAIN them that counts. And I did just that, so my opinions are totally valid, and you can't argue that.

Dragiiin123, do you mind just calling a truce? To be perfectly honest, I really have no problem with you personally, and I apologize if I got touchy at all in this argument. But I just hope you understand that all of my points in that article are purely explained opinions, therefore they aren't flawed.

Update: No double posting talonmalon. I know you haven't been on here in a while, but it's a new rule.
On the other hand, I think both of you need to accept the other's opinions and not overreact. Talonmalon, Dragiiin is not a troll.....he's just Dragiiin. He gets his points across in a different fashion. That does not make him a troll. Dragiiin, Talonmalon clearly has different views than you on SMG2 but that does not make his opinions flawed. There. Now will both of you get over this and go play some Pokemon.

Re: Mario ( Video Game Series Discussion)
Oh gawd, I really love this series! I used to play Paper Mario (all series) on my Nintendo Wii. I'm trying to get through the first Paper Mario, but somehow it's so difficult. The other two were easy. Already beat the final boss.
My favorite character would have to be Yoshi for the Mario series.
I tried out the New Super Mario Bros. Wii version..it was..okay. And riding on Yoshi was fun.
I would list a bunch of Mario games, but that's all I could think of at the moment.

Top 3 Mario games in my opinion: 1. "Super Mario World" (on the Super NES, Game Boy Advance, and Wii Virtual Console); 2. "Super Mario Bros. 3" (on the NES, the Super NES, Game Boy Advance, and Wii Virtual Console); and 3. "Mario Kart 64!" (Note: I did not count the "Super Smash Bros." video game series as Mario isn't the only Nintendo franchise being represented.)
