What's New?
Currently.... SBC has hit over 500 members! This is great news for us, and hopefully we'll be getting to 600 members soon. Also, a brand new contest is going on. The first 5 users to find a golden ticket hidden somewhere on the forum, will get early access to v7! Congratulations to SOF who was the first person to find the ticket. Remember - use your heads! There are only 3 spots left. See the "Lost Temple" announcement on the homepage for more. Speaking of contests, don't forget to participate in our other contest to put a funny, original caption on an image. The winner will receive 1000 doubloons.
In the future... SBC will be moving to vBulletin on August 26th, 2011. This will also be the launch of v7. We had a good time on forumotion, but it is time for us to move. Stay tuned for more!Richest Users

About the word "Overrated"
This word really pisses me off. Why? Because of how people say it all the time, then complain about it being said all the time, but those people say it too.
Example:
Person #1: That episode is so overrated!
Person #2: Stop saying that word! Just say you don't like it.
Person #1: *makes thread abut different episode* LOVE this episode!
Person #2: It's overrated as hell though.
I know that was just an exaggeration, but it's true. Your thought on this annoying word, and it's overuse/hypocritical people who complain about it's overuse, but still say it.

Yeah, who cares if it's "overrated". It means that the episode is pretty much popular, I don't see why it's a big deal.

I admit I have probably said in a post or two when I came back to SBC, but then I noticed how the word overrated is just used way too much on this site. Wumbo and I have made our opinions clear on it and now I guess you are a part of our resistance

I don't like the overuse of "overrated", but it's annoying when some users say "overrated" is overrated, but then say overrated as well. That just makes saying overrated is overrated....overrated.

As much as I agree with the past few posts, that wasn't a very good analogy.

Re: About the word "Overrated"
Overrated: Verb; To rate or appraise too highly; to overestimate.
No where in that definition does it say anything about not liking what you're defining as being overrated.
So what do you say when something gets more praise than it deserves?
I don't believe Phineas and Ferb deserves the praise it constantly gets. In my opinion, I find it to be overrated, AND I don't like the show.
I don't believe The Lion King deserves the praise it constantly gets, and I certainly don't believe it should be revered as the greatest animated Disney movie ever. In my opinion, I find The Lion King to be overrated, but I DO like it.
Saying something is overrated shouldn't default to it meaning you don't like it. Saying you don't like something, and saying something is overrated are too different things. Saying you don't like something means you flat out do not like it, no ifs ands or buts about it. Saying you think something is overrated means it gets too much recognition.
People on this site use it to replace "I don't like it" and that irritates me. Definitions of words gets destroyed and warped too easily; it's like saying something is "epic". The definition of that word isn't "awesome", but it instead relates to poetry, or in some instances, it relates to something of unusually great size.
But, what do I know? Maybe Webster's updated their dictionary since I last checked it five seconds ago and "overrated" is now synonymous with "I don't like".

Meh I think if a person uses it in the right place they can use it as much as they want.

The post I made at the top of this thread was just an example of how some users think that overrated should be described as something you don't like. I agree about Phineas and Ferb being overrated (and its repetitive too). I never thought the Lion King was as amazing as others though, but I still enjoyed it.
